When you are a cake decorator, or an artist, or if you have any talent for that matter, there is a thrill you get out of your friends and family seeing your work. Therefore, when my sister got married in December 2010, it was a no brainer...of course I was going to make her wedding cake! At the time, I had a 23 month old and a 9 month old. Not to mention I was in the wedding as a maid of honor. WHAT WAS I THINKING!!! I was thinking, this is what I have to do according to the book of sisterhood. I took 3 days off work...not to get my nails done....or my hair....or help my sister get ready for her big day....but I took it off for the cake! The night before the rehearsal dinner, I was up until 5am! And remember those two little babies I was talking about...they were up at 6am! Mind you, I do not have a lot of space to do cakes, so I use our kitchen table. When the girls have to eat, I push everything aside and we sit like a family is supposed to darnit!! Half the table is filled with cake and the other half spaghetti. My 23 month old won't eat dinner and is repeating..."I want cake, I want cake." Anyway, right before the rehearsal, I have to run to the hall and drop off the cake. If you have ever delivered a cake, you know my anxiety! I yell at everyone involved and I'm a nervous wreck until the cake is where it should be. I had to leave it in a cooler overnight but I did not trust anyone moving it the day of the wedding, so I put a large DO NOT TOUCH sign on it. The wedding was BEAUTIFUL! It was my sister's perfect winter wonderland wedding. Everyone is having a great time in the limo and all I can think about is the cake! We finally get there and instead of hanging out with my sister and her friends, I have to check on my kids…One has the runs (if you know what I mean) and the other is cranky. After a few kisses, I have to leave them with the babysitter (crying) and "move" the cake. Here I am, bridesmaids dress, hair done, nails painted and flip flops!! Lord knows I don't need to slip in heals during this! The cake is finally in the right spot with miner touchups and I can finally relax. It was such as crazy 4 days! In the end, everything was perfect and we had a great time. And for some crazy reason, I would do it all over again :)
